Maintenance Technician III (Troubleshooting Specialist)

About the Role
We are seeking a Maintenance Technician III who excels in troubleshooting and diagnosing complex industrial equipment. This is a senior-level hands-on role requiring deep experience in electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation systems. The ideal candidate will have the ability to quickly identify root causes, restore equipment to service safely, and prevent future breakdowns through critical thinking and technical precision.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead advanced troubleshooting of 460-volt electrical systems, motors, drives, and control panels.
- Diagnose faults in pumps, gearboxes, compressors, conveyors, and automated machinery.
- Use schematics, wiring diagrams, and PLC I/O prints toidentifyand correct control failures.
- Troubleshoot sensor, relay, and VFD issues using meters, test instruments, and logic analysis.
- Perform mechanical troubleshooting on hydraulic, pneumatic, and rotating equipment.
- Conduct root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and document findings for reliability improvement.
- Collaborate with production and engineering to solve recurring equipment issues.
- Train junior technicians in systematic problem-solving and diagnostic methods.
- Support and execute preventive and predictive maintenance tasks to minimize downtime.
- Maintain safe, organized, and efficient work practices in line with NFPA 70E, OSHA, and company standards.
Required Skills & Experience
- 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a high-speed manufacturing or processing environment.
- Expert-level knowledge of electrical troubleshooting for 3-phase 460V circuits, controls, and drives.
- Proficiencyin diagnosing mechanical issues (alignment, bearings, couplings, seals, etc.).
- Working knowledge of PLC-based systems, sensors, solenoids, and instrumentation.
- Ability to interpret and troubleshoot from blueprints, schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Skilled in multimeter, megger, and thermal imaging diagnostics.
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on system reliability and uptime.
- High school diploma or GED required; Technical certificate or associate’s degree preferred.
Tools & Technology
- Multimeters, clamp meters, megohm testers, oscilloscopes
- Thermal cameras, vibration analyzers, alignment tools
- Hand and power tools for mechanical and electrical work
- CMMS systems (e.g., FlukeeMaint) for PM and troubleshooting documentation
