Summary/Objective (role description):
Main objective is to manage the Business Development department to meet the Company Business Plan. This includes both the Sales and Purchasing functions within the department, with a heavy emphasis on Sales.
Essential Functions (duties and tasks summary):
Team members must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodations, the essential functions of the role which may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise 3-4 employees within the department and develop staff.
- Manage all sales, purchasing, and commercial issues.
– Quotes, Negotiations, General Terms & Conditions, Contract Maintenance, General Business issues, Purchase Order Agreements, etc.
- Develop and oversee Annual Business plans (Budget, Short-term (3yr), Long-term (5-7yr) to support Company Objectives.
– Includes Purchasing function management
- Manage department to achieve Company Business Plan
– Sales / Profit Targets, Customer Satisfaction, Purchased Contracts, Supply Base, etc.
- Active participation on project teams or special activities related to executing Company Objectives.
- Develop policies and procedures to effectively operate the department.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Work Environment:
Open office environment with moderate noise levels. Office is located at the manufacturing facility. Will be required to go on the manufacturing shop floor from time to time. Overnight travel is required as needed. We have a standard uniform policy for all team members.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to travel both by air / car for extended periods of time. The employee must also be able to stand / walk for extended periods of time while on the shop floor.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time salaried position. Typical 40 hours per week. However, overtime may be required as needed.
Qualifications:
Skills and abilities based on requirements that are job-related and consistent with business necessity include:
- Strong sales and marketing orientation with ability to develop business strategies according to Company Business Plan (includes Purchasing function).
- People development (skill assessment, feedback, delegation, motivation, communication, listening, expectations, respect).
- Interpersonal skills (management, relationship building, teamwork, interpersonal insight, conflict resolution, customer orientation).
- Leading people, meetings, projects, and other activities related to business plan.
- Communication (verbal communication, persuasive impact, listening, written).
- Ability to negotiate win / win results
- Ability to clearly communicate department objectives to staff
- Judgement and thinking (strategic, analytical, decision making, problem solving, awareness).
- Performance skills (attention to detail, accuracy, planning, organization, efficiency).
- Personal characteristics (motivation, commitment, flexibility, assertiveness, quality orientation).
Education and Experience:
- BA or BS in business, economics or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of sales and/or business development experience.
- Previous management / staff supervision necessary
- Experience working with Japanese automotive culture preferred
