JOB SUMMARY:
Paramedics are responsible for providing medical assistance in emergent and non-emergent medical situations and
transporting patients safely to medical facilities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Administer advanced and basic life support, and other forms of prehospital emergency care to people who
are injured or sick.
Assess patients’ injury or illness severity to establish and prioritize prehospital medical procedures
Follow WCEMS Standard Operating Guidelines
Follow the state of KY EMS Protocols at the direction of EMS’s Medical Director
In accordance with KRS and KAR regarding emergency medical services, complete paperwork and electronic
healthcare records on patients encountered in a timely manner
Safely operates ambulances and other emergency response vehicles
Communicate clearly and concisely to physicians and other healthcare providers both in person and via
radio/telephone
Assure all equipment and supplies are present on the assigned ambulance, as outlined by departmental
guidelines
Maintain all sectors and vehicles by disinfecting, cleaning, and organizing.
Attend mandatory training sessions and staff meetings
Responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisor or command staff
REQUIRED TRAINING:
KY State Paramedic Certification
ICS 100, 200, 700 & 800
CPR, ACLS, & PALS
CEVO 4 Driver’s Training
Defensive Driver’s Online Course
Any other courses required by EMS and the County
SKILLS:
Proficient computer knowledge, as well as many other medical devices used in EMS
Attention to detail
Ability to multi-task
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to resolve problems and interpret policies and regulations
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
NONE
Education:
High School Diploma
Kentucky Paramedic Certification
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Must pass a background check
Must pass a drug and alcohol screening
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working indoor or outdoor in all types of weather conditions to include extreme hot/cold
temperatures night or day
Working irregular hours (24+ hour shifts); irregular breaks
Riding in the back of a moving vehicle
Job-related risks for communicable diseases and/or bloodborne pathogen exposures
High risk for mental stress related to treating and caring for the sick and injured (children, adults,
and the elderly) to include those with special needs, and abused patients
Flexible and team-minded partner able to work in complex stressful situations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Repetitive lifting of over 25lbs.
Bending, stooping, and climbing stairs
Driving ambulances or med cars for distances greater than 5 miles per shift during daylight or
nighttime
Clear vision and hearing
Defensive driving skills
Quick motor and sensory response skills
Strong critical thinking skills
Precise clinical decisions under pressure or stress
Excellent speaking, listening, communication and comprehension skills
Accurate documentation of reports and paperwork.

Cleaning and disinfecting ambulances and other vehicles, equipment, and common/lounge areas
